PC development is more dominant than ever, according to the GDC’s annual “Game Industry Status Survey”.

Like last year, the 2025 GDC survey conducted a questionnaire on the work practices of more than 3,000 game developers.The survey covers topics for which platforms developers are currently developing games and which platforms they are most interested in publishing games in the future.

80% of respondents said they are currently developing PC games, up from 66% last year.Meanwhile, 74% of respondents said they were interested in the platform, an increase from 62% last year.

Although the reasons for these growth are unclear, the GDC report suggests that this may be related to the popularity of Valve’s Steam Deck.

"This year's survey did not list Steam (or Valve's handheld) as a platform alone, as it is the center of PC and Mac games, but it seems that some developers do see it as a unique platform. For example, whenWhen asked about other platforms that were interested, almost half (44%) of respondents wrote about Steam Deck.”

38% of developers said they are currently developing games for PS5, surpassing Xbox Series X/S (34%), then developing for Android (29%), iOS (28%), Mac (23%), and NintendoSwitch (20%).

Below the list, 8% of respondents said they are developing games for the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2, the same as last year's survey data.
