Origin, the first PC gaming store and PC client launched by EA in 2011, will be discontinued later this year.While the current EA App and Store does evolve from the classic Origin experience and almost completely take over the operation, the old apps are still available to some users.However, there are only a handful of days when EA finally announced Origin.

EA announced that it will close the Origin client on April 17, 2025, and Origin users can be transferred to the EA App.EA Origin has been running for 14 years.

EA also assures players that all players' games are still associated with their accounts when transferring to the EA App or upgrading the operating system.The game also doesn't need to be re-renewed, and the game time counter and any cloud storage used to save will also be automatically transferred.

EA explained that this is because Microsoft has stopped supporting 32-bit software and Origin no longer receives support.EA App requires 64-bit Windows 10/11 to be installed.

After a long testing period, EA began completely replacing Origin with its new EA App as early as 2022.

The Origin client is still active at the moment, as both macOS players and players who are still using the 32-bit Windows version are using it.But now, EA App has supported macOS, and 32-bit support is being phased out. EA encourages PC players to upgrade.
