Sony and several studios donate $5 million to California Fire

Sony and its several California-based PlayStation studios have announced donations of $5 million to the California Wildfire Assistance Program.

California wildfires that began last Tuesday have killed at least 25 people, displaced thousands and destroyed more than 12,000 buildings, which may be the worst-lost fire in U.S. history, weather forecasting agency AccuWeather estimates that the total loss could reach 2,750$ 100 million.

Sony said this week it will donate $5 million to support first responders, community and rescue reconstruction efforts, and other assistance programs.

Sony Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and Yuki Toshima, President and Chief Operating Officer, issued a joint statement: "For more than 35 years, Los Angeles has been the home of our entertainment business. We will continue to work with local business leadership to identify the Sony GroupHow best to support rescue and recovery efforts in the days to come.”

PlayStation studios in Los Angeles - Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games and Santa Monica Studios also issued statements confirming plans to donate to the rescue efforts.

Naughty Dog said: “Naughty Dog is Los Angeles native and we are proud to have been part of such a strong and resilient community here for decades and we will continue to support our team members and our community as we work together to rebuild.. We also want to thank the incredible first responders and the support our partners at SIE and Sony.”

Insomniac wrote: “For decades, Insomniac has regarded the Los Angeles area as its home. We feel a responsibility to support the communities that have shaped us into our today. We also want to thank the first responders and volunteers for theirThanks to their ongoing control and rescue work. Be careful.”
