"Marvel Spider-Man 2" CPU Test Core Ultra 9 285K Leads 9800X3D

German hardware media PCGH tested the PC version of "Marvel Spider-Man 2". In the CPU test part, Intel's new generation CPU Ultra 9 285K unexpectedly defeated AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

As shown in the figure below, the data shows that the 9800X3D lags behind the i9-14900KS and the Core Ultra 9 285K in all three data.The Ultra 9 285K averaged 89.5 frames, while the Ryzen 7 9800X3D performed poorly, with an average of 77.8 frames, 11.7 frames behind.

CPU performance analysis

The only thing that helps in Marvel Spider-Man 2 is the higher performance per MHz (IPC) – AMD’s trick 3D V-Cache doesn’t play much in this game.At least without ray tracing on, the game does not require high configuration requirements. A Zen 2-architecture quad-core processor (such as the Ryzen 3 3300X) is enough to reach 60 frames at 1080p resolution.The Ryzen 5 5600X3D can provide a stable 60 frames.

But if ray tracing is turned on, the situation becomes different: even the Ryzen 7 5800X3D cannot reach an average of 60 frames, at least the Ryzen 5 7600X3D is required to meet the needs.In the test, only one CPU was able to provide 60 frames with ray tracing turned on, that was the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.The Arrow Lake architecture processor has the highest IPC performance, and even the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a disadvantage.

Overall, the game isn't doing a good job in CPU optimization.
