Hello everyone!Welcome to read the development log of China Asset Package "Urban: Skyline 2"!I am VictoriaCity, and I am responsible for the asset creation of this asset package.Today, I will share the design concepts and development process behind the Chinese asset package, and how to bring the authentic Chinese look to your city through the diverse combination of history and modern architecture.

Inspiration and design

At first glance, modern Chinese cities seem to be the same—rows of rows of apartment buildings and office buildings are rising.But look closely and you will find their diversity and depth.Chinese cities have undergone hundreds or even thousands of years of historical precipitation, and traditional buildings and ultra-modern skyscrapers coexist.

The goal of China Asset Package is to recreate this unique fusion—from the historical charm of the courtyard to the grand scale of modern high-rise buildings.The various areas, service buildings and landmark buildings in this asset package reflect the rich and multi-level characteristics of Chinese cities.Here are some of the inspiration we referenced when creating architecture:

In recent decades, due to the rapid urbanization process, Chinese residential buildings have been deeply influenced by different periods.The game allows regional buildings to have multiple floors, which is perfectly in line with our goal of showing the development of residential buildings in different eras.To this end, we designed high-rise apartments from the 2000s as well as modern luxury apartments that have been popular in recent years.As buildings upgrade, they reflect the pulse of your city’s ever-growing development and showcase the city’s growth and modernization.

In addition, the modern interpretation of traditional architecture has become an important trend in urban design in China today, especially in public service buildings and educational institutions.Incorporating this architectural style into Chinese assets is one of our priorities so that you can integrate culturally-rich designs in the city.

Automatically generate the area of the building

The 6 brand new areas that will generate buildings are:

Low-density residences – including modern and classical country single-family residences.

Low-density courtyard houses - inspired by the traditional walled houses commonly found in Beijing - Siheyuan.

Medium density residences – including 1990s Old Town apartments and more modern mid-rise buildings.

Low-rent housing – similar to medium-density housing, it also aims to replicate practical residential buildings commonly found in Chinese cities.

High-density residences – one of the highlights of this asset package, including 1980s-90s towers, modern high-rise buildings and luxury penthouses.

High-density office building – the first high-rise office area of all areas released so far.Including towers from the 1980s-90s, modern box buildings and curved skyscrapers, providing flexible layouts for independent towers or commercial areas.

The design focus of this asset package is not simply pursuing the number of assets, but designing 37 unique architectural styles that can be automatically generated to achieve more combinations, allowing you to build a real Chinese urban layout.

High-rise residential buildings in China are often part of enclosed communities, meaning they do not always have a fixed "street" facade.This presents a unique challenge in the game, as the partition rules in the game assume that buildings are arranged along the road.To solve this problem, we created more facade changes than in real life and used sidewalks to move the building entrance inward.To meet the required combination of plot sizes for each area, we also had to create some more compact and smaller high-rise buildings.These will be especially suitable for ultra-high density downtowns, helping you create cities with the key to optimizing urban space, not only fits the Chinese atmosphere but also any location in the world!

We have noticed that almost all the plans for modern Chinese residential communities include a kindergarten.Kindergartens are a basic component of urban communities in China and are usually located in separate buildings with dedicated facilities.However, the education system in the game starts in primary school, so we have to creatively design how kindergartens work in the game.Therefore, we have launched a new type of service building - a modern-style kindergarten that falls under the administrative category.It can improve well-being within 800 meters and promote outdoor recreation – very clearly showing that citizens' children are well cared for!
