Recently, Serene Questworks, a developer of "Secret Castle", was accused of using generative AI to replace live voice actors.

On Twitter, voice actor Mika Nerida accused: "Hey, voice actors, if you were going to dubb a game, but the developer decided to use AI-trained sounds instead of your recordings, and not only did not use your voice, but also canceled the cooperation of all voice actors and refused to join the group?"

She said in an interview that she was initially selected because she thought she would replace the game's initial decision for AI voiceover, but later Serene Questworks regretted and suggested that AI would be used to some extent, and they and other game voiceover actors were kicked out of the project after she and another voiceover actor Mitchell refused.

Mitchell added: "The actors were fired before the recording started. The generated sound is not just a "sound filter" but a sound that makes you sound like a completely different person. This is to save costs on different voice actors, although the voice actors auditioned can provide them with an extremely wide range of voices. We asked just to have us dubbing, not let the computer do it."

He also revealed that a member of the Serene Questworks agreed to the requests made by the voice actors, but processing the documents was removed after a few hours and they were fired.

The Secret Castle now admits in its AI-generated content statement on Steam that the game sometimes uses AI to generate dubbing, but according to Nerida, the statement was released before the voice actor was hired.So far, Serene Questworks has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
