Since most PS5s are produced in China, the applicable tax rate will be as high as 54%.Sony may be converted to supply the US market exclusively from Japanese factories, reducing the tax rate to 24%, but American players still have to bear higher hardware prices.

"Sony needs to evaluate the impact of tariffs on current profit margins and the amount of hardware price increases. Accessories and gaming prices may also fluctuate depending on cost-passing strategies," explained Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners.

"The positive factors are: the initial storage, local manufacturing in Japan, the PS5 is in the middle and late stages of the life cycle (stand-alone profit), and the PS5 Pro priced at $700 has predicted the impact of tariffs. Even if the price increases, the range will be smaller than that of a brand new technology product."
