Once the Nintendo Switch 2 was launched, it became popular all over the world, and the strong demand far exceeded Nintendo's own expectations.Previously, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa had apologized to players for the inadequate initial stocking and promised to increase production capacity. But according to Japanese analysts, the Switch 2 production capacity may not be increased by next spring, which will lead to shortages around the world.

According to the Nikkei Shimbun, senior analyst Hideki Yasuda and UBS analyst Zhai Yijia estimated that the first month of the Switch 2 may be sold around 6 million units after its release on June 5.

Yasuda estimates that even if supply is limited, the sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 will reach 20 million units by the end of the fiscal year (March 2026), while Zhai Yijia's prediction is more conservative, at 18 million units. However, no matter how you compare, these goals will be 20% to 30% higher than the sales of the first-generation Switch.

Zhai Yijia also believes that the initial sales of Switch 2 are significantly higher than those of PS5 and Switch, but this should not be interpreted as too strong demand, because PS5 and Switch suffered a serious semiconductor shortage when they were first launched, resulting in poor production capacity. And in the long run, it is difficult for Switch 2 to surpass Switch.

But Hideki Yasuda's view is more optimistic.Yasuda said that compared to past consoles, the Switch 2 has been overwhelmingly sought after, and gaming consoles that initially responded tend to continue to maintain high demand.

Market analysis company DFC Intelligence predicts that by the end of 2029, the sales of Nintendo Switch 2 may exceed 100 million units, surpassing the first-generation console.

Meanwhile, Nintendo officially responded to the pricing of Switch 2. President Shuntaro Furukawa said that the company is evaluating the degree of impediment to specific consumers, especially young consumers:

“We think the pricing of the Switch 2 is consistent with the gaming experience it offers, and most importantly, it is providing an entertainment experience that demonstrates its value. To achieve this, we incorporate various features into the Switch 2.

Granted, the Switch 2 is priced higher than our previous consoles. We are creating opportunities for children to get exposure to Nintendo’s characters and game world, and one of our ultimate goals is to enable them to finally be able to play games on our consoles. We are paying close attention to the extent to which the price of the host will be a hindrance.”
