Earlier this week, independent developer Pere Albaccar posted a social media post on social media that if Team Cherry's highly anticipated sequel, The Hollow Knight: The Silk Song, can be announced at the Nintendo face-to-face meeting, he will give replies players free Steam activation code for his new work "Sand of Hope".

This post quickly attracted widespread attention online and received more than 34,000 replies - which means that a large number of free Steam activation codes might have been sent! But in the end, "Silk Song" was absent again at the face-to-face meeting, but this was no longer important to Albaccar.

"I was very nervous during the face-to-face meeting...you can imagine it," Albakar told the media with a smile, and he also mentioned that the initial post was "just a joke, but I didn't expect it to be out of control soon."The developer and founder of Guateke Studios said he tried to reply to comments in the first 20 minutes or so, but then the comments "started to come in hundreds of thousands."

The turmoil is a little calmer now, but even so, the popularity of this week has brought a miracle to Albakar's independent new work "Sand of Hope": in just two days, the game's wish list has been added to more than 3,000 new ones, and it has also been on the "Hot Upcoming" list on Steam's homepage - all thanks to that social media post.

"Sand of Hope" is scheduled to be released on Steam on August 4.The game description reads: "Explore the sandy landscape of Saidonia, use ancestral power to build and connect magnetic blocks, find energy cores to restore the water flow of the land, and meet other villagers with the help of loyal partner dogs." (Yes, you can touch the dog.)

“I’m very grateful for the community’s response to Sands of Hope,” Albakar continued. “The most common reviews are ‘Even without Silk Songs, I’ll buy Sands of Hope’ and ‘I’ve never heard of your game before, but it looks great!’… Our team has only two people and no publisher, so getting so much attention a few days before the release could change everything for this little game.”

Albakar has been developing games since 2018. He taught himself programming and has mastered "dozens of skills required to develop games on his own or small teams."Sands of Hope is his first commercial game developed by him and his friend Frankie. The duo paid out of their own pocket to fund the project, and the development work was launched last February.

“We have talked to many publishers, but the industry environment, coupled with our goal of shortening the development cycle and launching in 2025, makes it difficult for us to achieve cooperation,” Albaccar said. “I think in this era, indie developers must be smart enough to create games and complete development with quality and quantity.”

Albakar ended with: "Developing independent games is very risky, and we must stand out with the creativity and innovative ideas that large companies are reluctant to try. This is also the reason why I think the indie game masterpieces have appeared frequently in recent years - players are always looking forward to a fresh experience."

The trial version of "Sand of Hope" was released earlier this year and the reviews are currently good overall. One of the trial comments read: "A cute puzzle game, I love its visual style and sense of humor, and look forward to its official release." Another comment said: "This game has great potential."

So, although we haven't waited for "Silk Song" yet, if you want to find an independent game to satisfy your cravings, "Sand of Hope" may be worth a try.
