Starbreeze Studios today announced that it will "stop developing" its Dungeons and Dragons game code-named "Project Baxter".The game was originally announced in 2023 and is scheduled to be released in 2026.

“After strategic evaluation, the board and management believe that the best way to deploy resources is to accelerate growth in the flagship game Payday series,” Starbreeze said in a press release.

The team responsible for Project Baxter, some of which were redeployed to other Starbreeze projects, was mainly the Harvest Day team, but also laid off 44 employees and contract workers to reduce the cost base in the future.

The studio believes that by canceling the Baxter Plan and increasing its focus on the Harvest Day series, its cash flow will turn positive next year.

"Harvest Day 3" was released in September 2023, but it was released at the first level of disaster, and serious server problems caused the game revenue to be lower than expected.

Due to poor performance in the early stages of the game, Starbreeze fired CEO Tobias Sjögren in 2024, then laid off about 15% of the jobs at the end of 2024, and appointed Kristjansson as the new CEO in March 2025.
