On October 15, the "Battlefield 6" development team announced that they will make major adjustments to the most popular mode in the game, Conquest, which may shorten the game length. This decision was met with almost unanimous opposition from the entire Battlefield community.Just 48 hours (just 2 days) later, EA announced that it would withdraw this change, return the conquest mode to 45 minutes, and promised to continue to adjust and repair the game.
After "Battlefield 6" was released last week, sales have been booming and the number of players has surged, making it one of the most successful games in the series. But like almost every popular online game these days, players have been providing feedback, complaining about issues, or pointing out things that need fixing every day since launch.EA is also responding actively, planning to fix overly bright maps, adjust movement mechanisms, etc. However, among the many recent changes, there is one that has players shocked on Reddit and social media - EA and Battlefield Studios have lowered the initial vote count for Conquest mode. This change triggered the anger of players.
For players who are not familiar with the Conquest mode in Battlefield 6, a simple explanation is as follows:
The core of Conquest mode is to capture and control multiple strongholds on the map.The more points you capture, the slower your team votes decrease. And every time a player dies and respawns, the number of team votes will be reduced by one point. The first team to reduce the number of votes to 0 loses.
Before October 15th, the initial number of votes for each map in Battlefield 6 was 1,000.But EA later adjusted this value - setting a lower starting number of votes based on different maps. The starting number of votes for the Siege of Cairo was reduced to 900, while for Mirak Valley it was slashed to 700!EA explained that the reason for this is that some games take too long and often end due to time running out rather than the number of votes reaching zero. The game time is slightly delayed and does not meet their expectations. The purpose of lowering the number of votes is to allow more matches to be decided in normal combat, rather than being terminated by a timer.
However, this adjustment immediately caused dissatisfaction among players.Because - no one asked for this change at all. Many players (including the author) said that after playing for so long, they have never encountered a conquest game that ended because time expired. For most people, the charm of the conquest mode lies in the long and repetitive battles that last for more than 20 minutes.
Countless Reddit posts and comments point out that if you want shorter, faster-paced matches, Battlefield 6 already has plenty of modes to choose from. The act of cutting votes has become "solving a problem that doesn't exist."Apparently, EA is also aware of this, because they have urgently withdrawn this controversial change.
On October 17, the official Twitter of "Battlefield" issued a statement stating that they "listened to player feedback" and would restore the original settings of the Conquest mode.
“We’ve heard your feedback about the Conquest mode vote reduction and will be restoring the initial vote count for all maps to the original 1,000 votes, with match lengths being 45 minutes.
Please note that this change may result in longer matches on larger maps such as Miraak and Firestorm. We will continue to monitor player feedback and game data to ensure that the pacing and overall experience remain reasonable."
It's strange to me that EA seems to be very worried about Conquest being too long - but that's always been the core of the mode's design. Many players also pointed this out in the comments.
I think the best solution is to add a "Fast Conquest" mode, which has fewer tickets and a shorter duration, and is specially prepared for players who like fast pace.Players who like traditional long battles can continue to enjoy 40 minutes of fierce battles.
In fact, I even wish EA would release an official playlist with 2,000 votes, because sometimes I just want to play a full hour of Operation Fire, you know.
At least for now, Conquest, the most iconic mode in Battlefield 6, has finally returned to normal, coinciding with the upcoming adjustments to the experience value system, making it easier for players to unlock new equipment.
After the "Battlefield 6" official tweet announced the news of the callback, the comment section was filled with applause:
