Brief introduction

ViaBackWards is a multi -platform server plug -in, depending on Viaversion; with ViaREWIND, you can connect your server from 1.7.x -the latest version of MC.

ViaBackWards itself is both a spigot plugin and a Fabric Mod, and it also supports use as a Velocity plug -in (SPONGE and BUNGEECORD supported by version 5.0.0 to a separate plug -in).

Since version 5.0.0, like Viaversion, Viabackwards needs Java 17.

If you need to use the 1.17.1 and below versions (regardless of Viafabric or server), download the JAR compatible with Java 8-16 here.

ViaBackwards's own role is to support clients 1.9 and above to connect to the new version of the server.

If you need to connect to the updated version of the server than the client you use (such as 1.19.4 client to try to use viafabric to add the 1.20.4 server), or your server needs to support the older version of the client (such as 1.19.4 server serverSupport 1.18.2 client) on the basis of Viafabric / Viaversion, you need to install ViaBackWards to get support.

Known problem

The client 1.16.5 and below does not support the new world height of 1.17+, and the client cannot display and interact with blocks below 0 and 255 or more.

1.16.5 and below clients are at 1.17+ servers. Sometimes the item bars are not synchronized (ghost items).

The conversion of some sounds is incomplete.

1.19.4 and below clients cannot use forged desks on the 1.20+ server.

1.19.0 and below clients cannot connect to the 1.20.x Fabric / Neoforge server, and will always log in and then connect to timeout. See this Github Issue.
