There have been many comic-adapted games in "2000 AD" but all failed

British game studio and publisher Rebellion is preparing for the release of "Fallen Atom".It is a game with a history-like background in the Stalker, and its CEO Jason Kingsley calls it a "dream game."

For Rebellion, "The Fall of Atoms" represents a new direction. It can be said that the studio's most well-known work is the "Sniper Elite" series, but especially in the UK, Rebellion is also known for its publisher and owner of the old-fashioned comic "A.D. 2000".2000 AD is one of the greatest science fiction comics in the world. It has been published since 1977 and has created countless original characters and stories.

Kingsley also admitted that in the field of video games, Rebellion has not used "A.D. 2000" enough.Over the years, Rebellion has produced several games themed on SWAT (but not recently released), and a very good Rogue Force game, and... Well, that's all.

So, back in 2017, when Kingsley first started talking about getting other developers to take advantage of Rebellion's resources, it makes sense. As a video game developer, Rebellion has several established series that have little to do with "A.D. 2000" and it simply cannot develop these series while also taking on a lot of game development work based on comic rights.

“A.D. 2000 has been a challenge,” Kingsley said in 2018. “I kept saying that I wanted to launch more works in the game based on the A.D. 2000 rights, but for one or another, we haven’t really done it. When people ask me, ‘Why haven’t you made more related games?’ I’m always a little embarrassed. The simple answer is, it’s really not going to work.

“That’s when we decided to look at the outside developers and say, ‘Okay, no problem. To be honest, if you guys want to use the rights to 2000 AD, it’s great, come on, we can get into a business partnership and do something really interesting.’ And there’s really someone doing something like that, which is really exciting.”

You can tell without thinking about some characters that may be adapted into a great game: Slaine, Nemesis the Warlock, the ABC Warriors, and even if there is the right person to make it, something like Harrow Jones can do.When the media asked Kingsley in 2018 how many games were in development, he said “more than one, less than twelve.”

Fast forward to 2025, how many games are there based on "2000" in your hands now? None of them are available.

“The opportunity is still open to people,” Kingsley said. “Five or six people started working on something, making a trial version, trying to get funding for their projects. But then the pandemic broke out and I think their projects all failed more or less.”

This gives the CEO the opportunity to express some philosophical views on how the gaming industry works."Some people have made some progress, you know, we saw the demo and they said, 'Yes, it looks great. You know, with our support, keep on doing it.'" Kingsley said.

"But you know as well as I do: a lot of games are starting to be made, but what is really done is only a relatively small part. It's actually… the industry is really a bit sad. The games you can see are just a very small part of the number of games you start to be made. It's a shame."
