From all aspects, the console war that players like or hate is no longer there.Gone are the days when gaming executives slammed rival companies to demonstrate their dominance in the industry.Today, Xbox is bringing its first-party games to the PlayStation platform, and just five years ago, such a move seemed absolutely crazy. When asked about this new strategy, former Xbox chief Peter Moore admitted that he encouraged console wars in the early 21st century because it was "good for the industry."
"I did encourage this competition because I think players like to watch Xbox and PlayStation duels," said the former Xbox person.
Moore's response comes from a recent interview. The former executive, who has been involved in shaping the first generation of Xbox and Xbox 360, believes that video games are still a controversial period in mainstream society, helped three major game companies (Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo) maintain their influence.
Moore was once known for his PR stunts involving tattoos.Once, he got a tattoo of "GTA 6" to make players believe that the game is more closely related to Xbox than PlayStation.
“In those days we needed to do a lot of pioneering work, and we were young and able to have fun, do the stupid things we did and all kinds of gimmicks,” Moore said. “I think the hosting war you mentioned is good for the industry.”
"Listen, I've said it before - of course, I did encourage this competition because I think players like watching Xbox and PlayStation showdowns, and maybe Nintendo, and I think it's like a rise in the water, and it's good for everyone," Moore continued.
Moore also expressed his views on the current situation of Xbox.In a way, Microsoft "lose" the console war, as its strategy has shifted to promoting as many of its first-party games to different platforms as possible.Microsoft even launched an advertising campaign for "This is Xbox", suggesting this new strategy.Although Moore said that Microsoft's "rush" has weakened, the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has become a catalyst for Microsoft's new economy.
“I think the acquisition of Activision Blizzard has changed something—not I think, but I’m sure—in Microsoft,” Moore said. “So it’s not the era of console wars in the past, not the era of attacking each other, trying to grab customers, grab market share and increase the rate of bundling of games. From an economic perspective, the situation is more complicated than that.”
"Did it lose a little bit of the momentum that I think this industry once relies on for survival and development? I think yes," Moore continued.
