After iPhone: Foxconn's Indian factory starts AirPods production in April

March 17th news, according to media reports, Apple plans to start producing AirPods headphones at its Foxconn factory in Hyderabad, India from April, and the initial products will be mainly used for export.

This also means that AirPods will become the second major Apple product assembled in India after the iPhone.

Foxconn approved a US$400 million investment in the Hyderabad factory in August 2023. The factory has entered the pilot production stage of AirPods and is expected to rapidly expand its production scale after it is officially put into production.

Recently, Foxconn's smartphone assembly plant in Karnataka, India received a subsidy of INR 69.7 billion (about US$801 million) by the local government, the first time India has provided such subsidy to electronic companies.

In addition, Foxconn's factory near Bangalore has invested about US$2.5 billion, with an estimated annual production capacity of 20 million smartphones.

Canalys data shows that although Apple's TWS true wireless headphone shipments fell by 7% year-on-year in 2024, they still ranked first in the world with a market share of 23%, with a shipment scale of 76 million units.
