The open-world shooter game "Atomic Fall" developed by Rebellion was released in March and faced fierce competition during the same period - not only was it launched in the same month with Hazelight's popular game "Double Shadow" but it was also released one week later than the popular "Assassin's Creed" .But according to Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley, this did not prevent "Fallen Atom" from achieving its own success. In fact, the game performed very well and Kingsley is considering making it into a series.

In an interview, Kingsley was asked whether he and Rebellion's chief technology officer Chris Kingsley accurately grasped the scale of the project, including "The Fall of Atoms".He responded: "I don't think we're doing it completely right. One thing Chris and I want to do is copy it successfully. So we want to release more works from Sniper Elite, Zombie Force, and Squad Strange."

Kingsley added: "It seems that we want to do more about Atom Fall," he said.

Although Kingsley did not disclose specific sales data for Atomic Fall, we know that the game had attracted 2 million players as of mid-April.He said the game’s success exceeded Rebellion’s expectations: “In fact, we performed a lot better than medium expectations. It felt great when the market department reported that ‘yes, we underestimated the potential of the game’.”

Kingsley believes that one of the key factors in the success of "Fallen Atom" is its login to Microsoft's Game Pass service.Part of this is because the platform has increased the exposure of the game and has been supported by Microsoft: “They applied their technology and scale to our small projects, which is very beneficial to both sides – they have made good returns and we have benefited from it.”

In addition, releasing games through Game Pass can also provide certain financial guarantees."The specific details are inconvenient to disclose, but they guarantee you a certain level of income regardless of sales," Kingsley added.

Although "The Fall of Atom" performed beyond Rebellion's expectations, the launch of the sequel is more of a pragmatic consideration than a simple question of will."Can we find resources to develop a sequel? I don't know. Our philosophy has always been that two-thirds of the projects are sequels and one-third are new IPs that expand the boundaries."

But expanding the boundaries is expensive, Kingsley said any such attempt must be in line with Rebellion's budget management strategy and its position as a mid-sized game developer: "We are not deliberately limited to mid-sized size, but this is an area we can and successfully navigate. We can't afford the $200 million game development cost - we don't have that much money at all."
