Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 will use DLSS in all four modes

CDPR has confirmed to Digital Foundry that the Switch 2's first game "Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition" will use DLSS - Nvidia's AI-driven image quality improvement system.

"We are using the DLSS version for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, powered by Nvidia Tensor core. The game uses DLSS in all four modes: handheld and dock mode, as well as performance and image quality modes in each mode."

Previously, Nintendo officially confirmed that Switch 2 will support DLSS and ray tracing, but "Cyberpunk 2077" is the first game known to use this technology.

DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) is an AI image quality improvement technology, which was previously exclusive to Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards.AI improves performance in real time by creating additional frames and improving picture quality.DLSS is seen as an important part of the Switch 2 arsenal, as the technology should allow this hybrid host to keep pace with the modern cross-platform 3A masterpiece.

Digital Foundry Editor Richard Leadbetter added: "CD Projekt RED also confirmed that the current goal of the Switch 2 game is to provide different graphics modes—both handheld and dock modes can switch between quality and performance.

When connected to the TV, you can choose between 30fps image quality mode and 40fps performance mode.The latter can probably only run when the TV is at a 120Hz refresh rate - every three screen refreshes will produce a new frame, while the 30fps image quality mode will produce a new frame every other refresh.

With stable performance, both modes connecting to the TV look very smooth, with the 40fps mode having a fluency between 30fps and 60fps.Both modes use 1080p as the output resolution and combine DLSS dynamic resolution scaling technology.”

When playing games in handheld mode, the "Image Quality" mode outputs a 1080p image with DLSS and dynamic resolution zoom, which also targets 30fps, while the "Performance" mode reduces the resolution to 720p, the screen of the handheld device runs in 120Hz mode, and the target frame rate is 40fps.
