The subtitle of “Requiem” is not just a clever way Capcom has in order to incorporate the number “9” into marketing (i.e. Resident Evil Re9ieum).It is not just to continue the tradition created by Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (the name of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was formerly known as the European and American Resident Evil, and later the English name of Biohazard is also the Japanese version) or Resident Evil: Village.According to the game developers, it has quite profound meaning and may help to shed further the story.It is an ode to past characters in the Resident Evil series, especially those directly affected by the raccoon city incident.

“The series has become very popular because of the story surrounding the initial zombie outbreak, and since then we have seen many characters face hardships due to the raccoon city, and they have grown up in the face of these hardships,” said Art Director Tomonori Takano.

“There are a lot of characters involved in the initial outbreak, and they lose their lives as a result, or their fate is completely changed,” Koshi Nakanishi explained further."So many characters were born from Resident Evil. The game is a requiem, a eulogy for those predecessors.
