According to the latest reports, screenshots of the development of the canceled multiplayer game "Everwild" owned by Rare Studio were recently exposed on the Internet.
Since its debut in 2019, "Everwild" has been highly anticipated and can be called a blockbuster project of Xbox's Rare studio.Although this forest-themed multiplayer online game has not been updated for a long time, when asked about its progress, officials always stated that development work is still being pushed forward. However, affected by the wave of layoffs at Microsoft, many projects including the "Perfect Dark" reboot, "Blackbird Project" and "Everwild" were ultimately shelved.Recently, a highly credible report disclosed several screenshots of the actual gameplay and interface design of the game that have never been made public.

This batch of information comes from the personal websites of the artists involved in the project, and the image version is close to the final state before the project was cancelled.Although the screenshots mainly show the interface design, other elements can still be glimpsed: in the scene picture that follows the unique visual style of the trailer, the player character stands next to a stone circle with mysterious symbols; another one shows the landscape of a temple-like building. In terms of interface design, the item column displays six classification labels in detail: collection, soul, tool, inlay, seed and plant. In addition to the regular tools and quick favorites, the rest are more meaningful.

The "Souls" tab displays colorful small creatures, one of which is clearly labeled "Light Soul" - implying the system of collecting and utilizing creatures. The "Inlay" label also arouses imagination. These inlays with patterns such as the deer-like creatures that appeared in the trailer may be used to decorate the system. In another screenshot, the "Plant" tag (sometimes labeled as the "Seed" tag) clearly shows various planting materials such as shrub seeds, and hints that the game will have a built-in plant illustration system.

The website information also mentioned that Rare originally planned to use the player data of "Sea of Thieves" to build the setting system of "Everwild".According to the designer, this move is aimed at accurately grasping the game configurations that players adjust most frequently.

With the demise of Everwild, the future direction of Rare Studios remains a mystery. Some original project members may transfer to the "Sea of Thieves" team (excluding those who have been laid off) to inject new blood into this real-time service-based game.It is worth mentioning that Rare was also involved in the development of Perfect Dark, which was canceled by Xbox.
