"Sid Meier's Civilization VII" recently launched version 1.3.0 update, which is one of the most comprehensive patches since the game's release.This update completely revolutionizes the naval gameplay, implements major civilization balance adjustments, and launches the free "The Ups and Downs of the Sea" content pack (free for a limited time until January 5, 2026).This update redefines the game's maritime system by introducing new units, buildings, marine resources, and a reconstructed naval combat system.Players can now explore a more dynamic ocean environment filled with new features such as atolls and lotus lakes, while commanding reworked light and heavy naval units that take on more strategic modes of action in different eras.

In addition to large-scale naval renovations, this update also makes important adjustments to several civilizations: Egypt, Songhay, Spain, Achaemenid Persia, Axum, and Hawaii have been strengthened, while civilizations such as Mississippi and the Qing Empire have been weakened for balance reasons.A number of UI interface, AI intelligence and system enhancements have improved the overall game experience, including optimized automatic exploration logic, simplified control processes and smarter diplomatic behavior.The update concludes with the "Power Wave Pack," a free DLC that introduces the Pirate Republic and Tonga as new civilizations, as well as new wonders, leaders, and natural landmarks to explore.

Light naval units: high-speed, high-view melee types (privateers, ironclads, cruisers, destroyers)
Heavy naval units: slow ships with long range and heavy firepower (galleys, quadruples, frigates, battleships)
Kirk ship range increased from 1→2
Heavy naval units: -5 melee, +5 ranged/bombing strength
Light Naval Unit (Modern): Ranged/Bombing Strength -20
Submarines are now ranged units (70 ranged/50 melee) and cannot attack land or areas.
Air unit duties rebalanced to enhance differentiation

Crab: Provides food bonus to warehouse
Baby snail: Provides happiness, gold coins and technology bonuses
Turtle: Cultural bonus linked to the warehouse
Asphalt: appears in vegetation plots, increases productivity and gold coins, and strengthens factories

Atolls: Ocean obstacles that provide defense and output bonuses
Lotus Lake: replaces the rocks in the lake and provides food and culture
Reefs: Now only appear on the coast, application output improved
Ocean tiles: Workable in the modern era (1 food 3 gold coins); Hawaii gains earlier access

Egypt: River tiles +2 productivity; Miracle productivity +15% (double in desert)
Songhai: +1 productivity for each resource in the cities along the river; +3 gold coins for each trade route in the "Vakiya" tradition
Spain: New leader ability provides massive food/gold/productivity bonus to coastal or religious settlements; +5 combat power for heavy naval units
Achaemenid Persia: Paradise now provides +2 culture/+1 gold and +5 recovery for military units
Axum: Coast resources +3 gold coins; Takwa ships provide trade routes +2 gold coins
Hawaii: Develop ocean tiles earlier; Ocean expansion gains 25 culture; Improved Loikalo farm output
