The original director of "Saints Row" recently revealed that he has been invited to prepare a proposal for a potential prequel game, which raised a glimmer of hope for the series' return.Chris Stockman served as design director on the original Saints Row at Volition before leaving to found an independent studio, Bit Planet Games.He said he was "trying to get the old team together," but everything was still up in the air.As one of the first mainstream works to compete with GTA, it would be perfect if "Saints Row" could return together with "GTA 6".

"I've been asked to work on a pitch for a Saints Row prequel," Stockman posted on the game's Reddit community earlier this week. "I can't say more than that, but my dream for this game is no longer just a dream." We reached out to Stockman to confirm the account's ownership and to get more clarification on his plans for the open-world game.He reiterated that his "aim is to make a prequel," but added: "I won't reveal any more details at this time because I want to keep it secret for now."

Stockman said he reached out to Embracer Group, the IP holder of "Saints Row," after "an interview that generated some buzz."In that report in mid-October, he questioned the point of rebooting the series, saying "it wouldn't be Saints Row without characters that players know and love."

Today, Stockman tells us, "I wanted to get the Saints Row franchise back to its roots. You know, I directed the original Saints Row and I felt like the franchise had strayed too far from that path. I totally understand why they went in that direction, but ultimately, they sort of put themselves in a dilemma."

Of course, it's too early to expect this.But Stockman said: "There are already relevant intentions and the other party has asked to submit a project proposal." He also added: "I am trying to gather the old team. If it succeeds, it will be a wonderful experience. I hope it can happen!"
